Overwatch 2 Reportedly Has at Least Four More Unannounced Characters
Blizzard usually announces one new Overwatch hero during Blizzcon, and this year’s event was no different. Even though the company took the opportunity to announce Overwatch 2, the developers also shared new heroes like Sojourn (and maybe Echo). But according to Game Informer, at least four other new heroes are waiting in the wings for a big reveal.Game Informer’s cover story for this month is all about Overwatch 2, and the magazine’s executive editor Andrew Reiner was able to visit Blizzard and meet with Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan to prepare for the story. During their meeting, however, Reiner caught a glimpse of four unannounced Overwatch heroes.During a powerpoint presentation, Reiner reported that “One of the slides [Kaplan] brought up was for new heroes. The image contained four silhouettes, none were immediately recognizable as characters that were teased in earlier concept arts, comic books, or any of the art we’ve seen.”Reiner says that Kaplan passed over the slide too quickly to get more than a brief look at the four silhouettes, but that two of the characters immediately stood out. One was a male character who had a crooked staff “somewhat like a wizard.”The other was a female character with short hair with a “fuzzy little critter with pointy ears and an equally pointy tail,” by their side. “The hero of note wielded a giant four-sided weapon, which is somewhat similar to the shuriken used by Yuffie in Final Fantasy VII, but much thicker.”Reiner noted that three of the four silhouettes were female, save for the wizard-like male character.Kaplan declined to elaborate on any of these characters, and it’s unclear when we might ever see them. Some characters, like Sojourn, are designed years before they’re ever properly introduced (to some players’ chagrin). So, who knows if that’s the case here. For more of IGN’s Overwatch 2 coverage from Blizzcon, check out our hands-on impressions of Overwatch 2, including the new PvE and PvP mode.
