This page, Eagle’s Tower Dungeon Walkthrough, includes tips, instructions, and strategy on how to complete the Eagle’s Tower Dungeon. Follow along with this guide to do everything you need to do. You’ll need the Bird Key to open this dungeon!
Eagle’s Tower – Small Key #1Upon entering Eagle’s Tower, Link equipped his Roc’s Feather and Boomerang, and made his way to the right.
After jumping over some obstacles, Link found the far end of the hallway with a locked door. Here, he defeated every enemy, causing a Small Key to appear!
Destroy Pillar 1Link opened the door right in front of him with the new key, then went north until he found a heavy ball up a platform.
Link didn’t know why, but he wanted to bring that thing with him!Link ascended the stairs in the center and picked up the iron ball, throwing it to the left, by the moving blocks.
With the ball in position, he pulled the lever to open the blocks, then quickly picked up the ball and brought it with him. In the next room, Link used the ball to destroy the pillar in the center of the room here.
Destroy Pillar 2Trusting his instincts, Link then jumped to the right of the blue tiles, the southeast corner of the room, and landed on a platform on the other side. He jumped down from here, finding another pillar. For now, he ignored it, and went south – finding a crystal. Link struck it to turn it orange.
This lowered the blue tiles that blocked his way before, allowing him to follow the path back north–right where he left the iron ball!Link hoisted it up and brought it back south, destroying the pillar here. Destruction felt good, but Link was sure it served a purpose, too.
Eagle’s Tower Dungeon MapWith that out of the way, link went north to a room with two Knight chess pieces and an Anti-Fairy (the flaming skull!). Using his Boomerang, Link easily dispatched the pest, then turned his attention to the chess pieces.
Link first moved the white piece out of the way, then picked up the black piece and stood on the green square on the right, facing west, and threw it.
Then, Link grabbed the white piece and stood just north of the blue square second from the left. He faced south and threw it.
With both pieces in place, a chest appeared with the Eagle’s Tower Dungeon Map inside!
Eagle’s Tower CompassEquipped with the map, Link returned south for his big iron ball, and brought it back to the room just north of him. He pushed the block on the left south out of his way, picked up the ball, and went left through the opening.
From here, Link, momentarily, left the ball behind as he headed north, encountering a Three-of-a-Kind. Link knew he needed to strike them so their suits matched, and once he succeeded, a chest appeared! Link took the Compass from inside, then went through the opening north – a stairwell.
Mini-Boss: Hinox and Small Key 2In next room, Link took the top-most path, north of the raised orange tiles, and followed it around to the left, and south. He threw his Boomerang at the chubby enemies in his way, though they took a few hits to go down.
Eventually, Link found a stairwell. Link ascended the stairs, then immediately went south, ignoring the enemies.
Here, he found a mini-boss, the Red Hinox.Though this one hurled Bombs at Link, the Red Hinox was no match for Link’s Boomerang. Just a eight hits, and Link defeated him.
When the Red Hinox fell, a second small key fell from the ceiling! Link greedily snatched up his prizes – both the Fairy that appeared from the Hinox’s body, and the key.
Link continued onward to the right.
Stone Beak and SeashellIn the next room to the east, Link encountered another Three-of-a-Kind. He struck them until their symbols matched, causing a chest to appear! Unfortunately Link couldn’t reach it just yet, so he continued eastward.
In the next room, Link could see the crystal switch. He hit it with his Boomerang so it turned blue, but he immediately turned around. His instincts – as odd as they were at times – were acting up, and they were telling him to fall.
Link returned to the room where the Red Hinox was, then bravely jumped down the hole in the northwestern corner, just below the torch there.
Link found himself on a narrow path lined with steely blue tiles. He went north, and at the end of the pathway, found a chest’ with a Secret Seashell!
Link then went back south, until he saw another Treasure Chest below him on the right. He jumped down. Since he had hit the crystal switch above, Link was able to reach it, and obtain the Stone Beak from inside! Maybe he could rely on his instincts a little less now.
From the chest, Link went left, then north–essentially following the path the lowered orange tiles made. He made his first right, and quickly dashed across the room, evermore eastward. Eventually, he found another crystal switch. He struck it, turning it orange, then returned to the previous room on the left. Blue path uncovered, he followed the tiles south, then to the right, past a barrier of torches.
Link followed the path the only way he could–south–and found himself in a familiar room, where he got his first key. He went back through the first door he unlocked and ascended the stairs. Above, he found his path was unblocked since he hit the switch again!
Link excitedly approached the chest and opened it, finding a fancy new Mirror Shield! Tip: Mirror Shield – The Mirror Shield can deflect both beams (like the lasers Beamos statues shoot) and fire! This shield can also not be stolen by Like-Likes.Small Key 3Link made sure the crystal was still orange, then bravely jumped down the hole just above it.
Link followed the narrow passageway north to a treasure chest, in which he found the third small key!.
Destroy Pillar 3Link turned around, passing the room with a crystal, until he found a room divided by blocks with a stairwell that lead up on the right. He jumped down to this room, then took the stairs to get right back to the room where he just found the Mirror Shield.
Link went south, standing on the blue tiles at the exit of the room, then hit the crystal so it turned blue before exiting below.
Sure of himself, Link ventured to the left, over lowered orange tiles. Once inside this room, Link threw his Boomerang at the crystal here, turning it orange, before continuing westward
Eventually, Link found himself back in the Red Hinox room, and went north. He voluntarily entered the one-way door on the left that led further north.
Inside this room, Link made quick work of the anti-fairy with his boomerang, and blocked every single flying tile easily by standing in a corner. Only then could he continue to the right.Tip: Your best bet is to stand in a corner and hold up your shield. If you fall, head south, then go up the stairs. The one-way passageway into this room is on your left! In the next room, Link pushed the block on the bottom right to the right into the hole. This left Link room to jump over to pick up the iron ball he had discarded there earlier. He threw the ball over the gap, then jumped over it himself.
A glint of glee sparked in Link’s eyes as he hoisted up the ball and threw it at the pillar in this room, causing it to crumble beneath its weight.Destroy Pillar 4Before continuing, Link placed a bomb in the bottom left part of the room, between two torches. It was a hidden, cracked wall! Destruction deeds done, Link picked up the ball and threw it back over the gap to the right, and followed it. Link picked it up and brought it with him to the right. He had to push the block out of his way, but it was hardly an obstacle. Link continued south with the ball after moving the block and ran with it all the way to the enclosed crystal. Once here, he threw it south over the barrier.
Knowing he had to retrieve it, Link took the long way around to get to the other side. Tip: Use Manbo’s Mambo to teleport to the entrance, go all the way east, then north through the door you previously unlocked and up the stairs to where you got the Mirror Shield. Head south, hitting the crystal so it’s blue again, before continuing to the ball to the west. Link finally made it to the room with the enclosed crystal and the ball. First, he threw his boomerang at the crystal, turning it orange. Tip: Make sure the crystal in the room where the ball is is Orange before you leave. Link then picked up the ball, and went left. Here, he siddled up close to the gap that was protected by the smaller barriers.
Link couldn’t get across here, but that didn’t stop him from throwing the ball to the other side!
Link continued to the left, then north through the one-way door. When he made a right through the empty room that once had the anti-fairy, he immediately went south through the difficult-to-see entryway he had previously bombed.
On the other side, a long hallway marked by blocks on either side. At the end, what seemed like a dead end was actually a cracked wall. Link blew it up with a Bomb and continued south.
In this room, a chest taunted Link from across a long gap… Just kidding, Link easily reached it by using his hookshot!
Unfortunately, all he found were bombs, but he kept in mind that these would probably come in handy sometime soon.
More importantly, his trusty heavy ball was just north of the chest! He picked it up and brought it with him to the room just north of here, where Link was able to destroy a fourth pillar.
This cased a huge chain reaction, essentially collapsing the tower and condensing it.
Mini Boss – Grim CreeperSatisfied with his destructive work, Link returned to the previous room, then purposely jumped down the large gap, which brought him back to the entry way of Eagle’s Tower. Link then went all the way back to the room where he got the Mirror Shield with the crystal switch.
Standing on the blue tiles once again, he shot the Switch so it raised the blue tiles, and Link continued to the next room to the south. Link crossed past the lowered orange tiles, then headed north up some stairs.
Here, he found flying hearts and two iron heads. He ignored them and went through the door to the north, then went east.
Eventually, Link found himself locked in a room with an odd skeleton, dubbed the “Grim Creeper!”
The creature threatened Link and began playing a flute, summoning green-winged flying creatures. Feeling overwhelmed, Link backed himself into a corner. But, Link definitely felt safer with less angles for the creatures to reach him.
Wall behind him, Link readied his sword, and slashed away when the six creatures approached. When he destroyed them all in one go, the Grim Creeper finally admitted defeat.
When he departed, a portal was left behind.
Eagle’s Tower Nightmare KeyLink ignored the portal for now and went through the newly opened door north. He defeated the sparks with his boomerang and pushed the two blocks in the center together. This made a chest appear, which held the Nightmare Key!
Before leaving, Link made sure to strike the crystal so it turned orange.Secret MedicineHe then went back the way he came, and continued west when he could to find the Nightmare Door. He opened it, and continued north.
Eventually, Link found yet another room with chess pieces. So not to be disturbed, he reflected the Beamos’ beam back at him with his new Mirror Sword, then got to work.
Link picked up the white piece. He positioned himself below the green space on the left, and threw it eastward. He then picked up the black piece, stood beneath the white piece, and threw it westward.
With both chess pieces in place, a chest with Secret Medicine appeared.
Find the Nightmare LairFully equipped, Link backtracked to the room with the blue tiles on the left. He went up the stairs to a platform with a lone block, and used the Hookshot to get across to a raised pathway on the other side.
He then followed the pathway to some stairs, and when he ascended them, he emerged near the top of the tower.
The brightness of the sun startled link as he climbed the ladder, but the appearance of the Grim Creeper startled him even more.
Eagle’s Tower Boss Fight – Evil EagleGrim seemed to summon the Evil Eagle from out of nowhere, and it swooped down to intimidate Link.
The Eagle sped by Link with ferocious agility, keeping him on his toes. When the Eagle flew low, Link’s only choice was to protect himself with offense: He struck the Evil Eagle with his sword to prevent it from flying straight into him. In fact, he slashed as many times as he could each time the Eagle got close enough!
Occasionally, the Evil Eagle would attempt to dive-bomb Link with its talons, and when it did this, Link held up his shield as sturdily as he could and hoped for the best, getting strikes in when he could by jumping up with the Roc’s Feather. He also found the Eagle was also harmed by the Boomerang and Bow, but only if he hit the thing in its face.
Perhaps the most nerve-wracking was when Evil Eagle would fly beside the tower and create huge gusts of wind in an attempt to send Link flying off the edge to his doom.
Link used his Pegasus Boots to dash toward the great bird of prey to avoid being thrown off… but soon found if he was, it wasn’t too dire, as he could just climb the ladder again.
Finally, the great bird went down with a last swipe of Link’s sword. Relieved, Link collected the Heart Container and descended the ladder, back into the dungeon.
Get the Instrument of the Sirens – the Organ of Evening CalmInside the dungeon, Link saw the door to his right open. He jumped below to it and collected another Instrument of the Sirens – the Organ of Evening Calm.

Head inside and go right and avoid the spikes. Kill the enemies in the next room to make a key drop and then use it to unlock the door. Head upstairs and go up to the next room. You need to get the ball out and past the closing door so pull the switch and get the ball through it.
The main purpose of the ball is to throw it at the 4 pillars on this floor so throw it at the first one in this room to make it collapse. If you want the Dungeon Map, go up a room and grab the white horse head. Stand on a tile that’s 2 tiles down and one to the left or right (think of it like the movement of a Knight in chess) and throw the horse head at the switch. For the black horse head, it goes 3 tiles forward and one to the side. Adjust and throw accordingly and a chest will appear with the Dungeon map inside. Head back to the previous room and drop down the hole to the floor below. Head left a room and then down a room to get the Owl Beak. Go up and then run all the way to the right for a room with a floor crystal. Hit the crystal with the hookshot and the opposite floor pillars will raise/lower. Go back to the room that had the first flight of stairs you went up (far right room in the third row on your map) and head back up. Open the chest and you’ll get the Mirror Shield which will allow you to deflect beams back at enemies. Drop down the hole next to the floor crystal and you’ll be on the elevated wall on the floor below.
Walk ahead two rooms to the chest and you’ll get a small key. Jump off the wall and head left past the Kirby-like enemies, the flowers, and the beamos. You can reflect the beams back to paralyze the beamos. Head upstairs and you’ll be back in the room with the horse heads and dungeon map chest. With the blue floor blocks lowered, grab the ball and head down a room and throw the ball at the second pillar. Go back to the previous room with the ball and push the block in front of the left path out of the way. Throw the ball across the gap and jump across. The enemies in the room above will only be defeated if you hit each one when they have the same suit of cards appearing on their chest (if they all have diamond, you get rupees). Attack one and then make sure you hit the other enemies at the right moment so that their patterns all match up. Killing them nets you the compass. Go down and throw the ball to the other side of the fence near the pillar. Then head back to the previous room and down the stairs.
Head left and use bombs or the boomerang to kill the Kirby enemy. Go down to the room with the empty owl beak chest and head upstairs. Go down and to the left and you’ll fight the enemies with the card suits again(Gameboy version only). When you beat them, a chest will appear that you can’t reach yet. A cyclops appears in the next room and likes to throw around a lot of bombs. Just keep hitting him with your sword and he’ll be defeated. Grab the key he drops. If you want a secret seashell, jump down the hole on the far left of the room and then move up two screens to the chest.
Go up and through the human shaped door. You can kill the skull fairy with the magic powder. Stay in a corner and shield yourself or slash at all the tiles that come at you to unlock the door. The ball is in the next room so throw it at the pillar. Move the block in the lower right into the hole and throw the ball across. Now go down to where the floor switch is while carrying the ball and throw it over the fence. Head down a floor and go back up using the staircase in the room with the empty chest. Go to the Cyclops room and then to the right to the 3 card suit enemies and kill the enemies to make the chest appear. Get the ball in the next room, come back, and throw the ball over the gap to the other side of the fence . Go through the tile room again and into the next room. Blow up the gap between the torches and head through. Blow up the other wall and hookshot across the gap to the chest and get the ball. Throw the ball at the final pillar in the next room to make the upper floors sink to the ground.
Drop down and then to the far right and go back upstairs to the room with the orb switch. Go down and unlock the block with a key. Go upstairs and head north and to the right for the miniboss. The Grim Creeper only has one attack where he unleashes a swarm of six bats at you in different formations. Stay in a corner with your sword and slash all of the bats when they come flying at you. Missing even one bat means he uses a new formation on you until you kill them all. He’ll leave once you get every bat and the warp portal appears. In the next room, push the blocks together to get the Nightmare key.
Go back to the staircase room and head left and then up. Use the Nightmare Key to open the door…. to no boss. If you want to, go up and to the right and there will be a beamos and two horse heads. Deflect the Beamos beam and then throw the horse heads until they stand up and you’ll get a chest with a secret medicine inside. The last key can be used on a block in the room to the left, but it’s not necessary to do so. Go up the little stairs and use the hookshot to get across the gap. Walk around until you get to the stairs and go up for the real boss battle.
Boss: Evil EagleClimb up the tower and Grim Creeper calls in his pet Eagle to fight you. Equip the mirror shield and your sword. Make sure to always stay in the center of the tower. The Eagle flies horizontally across the screen and when it’s low enough it damages you. When it flies low enough, hit its beak with your sword or hookshot for damage. When it swoops down diagonally from the top of the screen, it means it’s going to try and blow you off the tower along with its feather attacks so use the mirror shield and push against the wind to stay on it . When it comes straight down from the top of the screen, it will swoop down to try and attack you so watch out. These attacks can be avoided if you use the hookshot right before it attacks. Just keep aiming for the beak and the fight will be over. Head back down once you’ve beaten him and jump down into the space where the door just opened and get the instrument.
