Watch Game of Thrones s8 episode 5 preview: Dany, Cersei, Euron & war

Gaming Articles 36

The only sound remotely dialogue like in the preview for Game of Thrones season 8, episode 5 is a bellowing Drogon, who will drop from the sky in a blaze of glory (and hopefully avoid Euron’s giant crossbow fire, because we can’t deal with another dragon death).
Creators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff opt out of any foreboding words — most of those were in episode 4, “The Last of the Starks,” anyway — and favor the silent treatment. Fleets of boats, marching armies, Cersei cackling to herself as Daenerys’ meager faction reaches King’s Landing’s doors, and the aforementioned giant crossbows loaded up with giant bolts speak for themselves. As Dany put it in episode 4: “We have won the Great War. Now we will win the last war.” Who knows who will “win” in the end, but war is coming.
A few images pop out from the trailer montage. Juxtaposed with Tyrion readying himself at Dragonstone is a shot of Cersei standing similarly to how she stood in season 6 as wildfire destroyed the Sept of Baelor and a portion of King’s Landing. If you laughed at Tyrion insisting that Cersei would never hurt her family, and certainly not her children, this is why.

We also see who appears to be Tyrion and Varys entering the Dragonstone throne room to present Dany with … hopefully a plan. But not the Varys plan to kill Dany. A better plan! We like Dany!

The final image is Euron, confident after blowing Rhaegal out of the sky in episode 4, acting a little confused after Drogon’s death roar. Can Dany take her dragon high enough to descend from the clouds and behind the battalion of crossbows? Let’s hope so. Burn this man.

Game of Thrones returns next Sunday night, May 12, with the penultimate episode of the series, expected to run one hour and 20 minutes.
