Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: Persona 5’s Joker DLC coming April 17
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will add Joker from Persona 5 on April 17 as part of the game’s first Challenger Pack, Nintendo revealed in a new YouTube video. The same day, Nintendo will release the version 3.0 update for the game, bringing with it the previously revealed Stage Builder mode and other new features.
In a new 15-minute video outlining this week’s update, Nintendo detailed Joker’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate moveset. He’ll use a gun, grappling hook, and the curse-type skill Eiha to attack foes. Joker can also employ his Rebel’s Guard defense to deflect damage and fill his Rebellion Gauge. When that gauge is full, Joker can summon his persona, Arsene, to aid him in combat. With Arsene in play, Joker’s abilities will be boosted, giving him new and more powerful moves.
Joker’s Final Smash, named All-Out Attack, will summon his fellow Phantom Thieves for a coordinated beatdown. And fittingly, his taunt brings Morgana into battle.
In addition to Joker, Ultimate’s first Challenger pack ($5.99) also includes the Persona-themed stage Mementos and 11 music tracks (including arrangements) from Persona 3, Persona 4, and Persona 5. The Mementos stage will change its color scheme based on the Persona game the music comes from.
Version 3.0 of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will also include some free content. There’s the aforementioned Stage Builder, which will let players freely draw stage platforms using the Switch’s touchscreen in handheld mode; a new video editor, where players can splice together replay videos and share them online; and compatibility with Smash World, part of the Nintendo Switch Online app, where players can check out recommended custom stages and videos outside of the game. In Smash World, players can queue up downloads of custom stages, then play them on Switch.
Joker will be available to purchase individually, but he’ll also come as part of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighter Pass. This will include five different bundles, each including a fighter, stage and music. The entire pass will run players $24.99.
